Subject: Are You a Big Yo-Yo?

Dear Friend,

Here's Part 4 of the f-r-e-e Newsletter series you requested:

Simple New Brain Science Unlocks Your Health and Happiness!

Last time, we talked about how our brains are like the brains of cavemen.  Did you miss that email?  You can read it at www.NeuroBalanceNow.com/NeuroNews3.htm .

So, are you a big Yo-Yo?

Oops, I don’t mean to insult you!  I don’t really think you’re a big Yo-yo.  (That sounds bad.)  But sometimes I think some people in our office are!  And sometimes I’m not so sure about me!

Join me for a quick trip down memory lane.  Do you remember when Yo-Yo’s were popular?  There was something almost magical about having this spinning disk slide down a string, stop, and reverse course and climb back up the string.  Of course, there was a trick to it.  At just the right moment, you had to give a small tug.  That way, you could keep the yo-yo going up and down all day if you wanted to.

Your body and brain also has cycles of activity.  For example, throughout your day, your level of alertness goes up and down.  Eventually you go to sleep.  After hours of sleeping, the right combination of neurotransmitters and hormones gives a small tug, just like a yo-yo, (assuming that the alarm clock doesn’t get there first) and you awaken, ready once again for another day.

When you’re young, usually your body and brain operate effortlessly like a finely tuned machine. Or, (in keeping with our analogy) like a competition yo-yo.

However, as you get older, life starts to take its toll.  The yo-yo gets some dings; the case might crack.  Maybe the string frays.  Now the yo-yo doesn’t work as well anymore.  It takes more of a tug to get it to climb back up the string. And it may wobble as it spins.

Of course, when this happens to a yo-yo, just looking at it tells you it’s not quite “healthy” any more.  However, when we look at our own experiences and behaviors, it’s not nearly as obvious.  Perhaps it seems like you’re not sleeping as well because you have a lot on your mind.

Or you’re having trouble paying attention because there’s so much going on.  You wonder if that terrible, debilitating stomach pain last week was just “food poisoning.”  And what’s with those headaches?  And why are people having such difficulty understanding you these days?  What’s wrong with them?

Can you notice when you’re not quite “healthy” any more?

Please consider that SOMETIMES, SOME of the above experiences are actually the symptoms of a brain spinning out of balance.  It’s having a hard time staying in balance and cycling in a natural way through its day.

I find this concept hard to explain because people aren’t used to thinking about brains being out of balance.  Isn’t your brain supposed to be a perfectly tuned machine that is always there for you?

The reality, however, is that your brain doesn’t always serve you as it should.  Just like any machine, sometimes it needs a tune-up.

If your brain gets too far out of tune, a health crisis arises.  You can go to your doctor, who can prescribe strong, mind altering prescription drugs such as antidepressants (like Prozac), sleeping pills or pain pills to cover up the imbalance.  These substances have been developed to be effective against a specific complaint.  They’re targeted, like bullets.

However, they do nothing to actually bring your brain back into balance and bring you to a greater state of happiness.

Nature designed your brain to be healthy if you live a natural life style.  However, in this day and age, it is almost impossible to figure out what a “natural life style” actually is!

This is where it becomes important to see what type of imbalance has developed through proper testing.  When you know how your brain is out of balance, you can take the right amount of the right nutrient so your brain can find its own balance again.  The string will “tug” at the yo-yo at the right time in the right way again!

Sometimes the resulting improvements are immediate.  Other times, it takes a little longer. Your discomfort and discontent decreases, and your satisfaction and happiness almost magically increase!

One of the difficulties with this nutritional therapy is that the changes are both subtle and profound.  It almost seems like nothing has happened, but everything has changed.  Sometimes it’s hard to wrap your brain around such a paradox!

We feel so lucky to have figured this stuff out. In our office, Mike used to lose his concentration on a regular basis.  We couldn’t even talk to him because even that was too hard on his poor brain.  And Mike’s a really bright guy, responsible for a lot of technical stuff nobody else understands!

Now we just say, “Hey, Mike, here’s your amino acids!”  And soon, he’s functioning again.

We’re really grateful to have Mike around because he teaches us so much just by being himself.  That’s why we put the initials “NTE” after his name.  It stands for “Neuro Technical Experiment!” (although HE thinks it stands for “Neuro Technician Extraordinaire!”)
